RIALTO, CA — On Friday, May 23, 2025, at approximately 10:29 p.m., the Rialto Police Department Communications Center received reports of a single-vehicle traffic collision in the 800 block of West San Bernardino Ave. Officers arrived at the scene at approximately 10:32 p.m. and found a single vehicle that had left the roadway and collided with a tree. Three occupants, all with serious injuries, were located. Officers immediately began life-saving measures until paramedics arrived and took over medical care.

The driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a local trauma center in serious condition. The decedent, identified as John Vielle, sustained life-threatening injuries, and Rialto Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene at 10:40 p.m. A third occupant of the vehicle was also treated and taken to a local trauma center in serious condition.

The Rialto Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to assume the investigation. Physical evidence at the scene suggests the vehicle was traveling at an excessive speed, west on San Bernardino Ave., when the driver lost control and struck a tree on the south side of the roadway. The investigation is ongoing, and officers are actively following up on leads. It is believed the driver was under the influence at the time of the collision. No arrest has been made pending further investigative efforts.

The Rialto Police Department is asking anyone with information about this incident to contact Traffic Sergeant Justin Breen at (909) 835-9965. Witnesses can also report information anonymously through WeTip at (800) 782-7463, referencing case #932506146.
