Fatal Traffic Collision

Oct 3, 2022 | Community News, News Releases

On Saturday, October 1, 2022, at approximately 5:49 a.m. officers responded to the area of Riverside Avenue and Live Oak Avenue, for reports of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and motorcycle.  Officers arrived on scene at approximately 5:53 a.m. with Rialto Fire Department personnel arriving minutes later.  The motorcyclist, who was later identified as Stevie Rodriguez, 20-year-old resident of Rialto, sustained life-threatening injuries.  Paramedics pronounced Rodriguez deceased at the scene at 6:04 a.m.  The driver of the other vehicle, Mandel Williams, was found to be the sole occupant of a gold Buick LaCrosse and sustained no injuries during the collision.

The preliminary investigation and witness statements indicate Rodriguez was driving in the number two southbound lane of Riverside Avenue approaching Live Oak Avenue at a high rate of speed.  Williams made a southbound turn from Live Oak Avenue onto southbound Riverside Avenue in the number two lane. Evidence at the scene indicates Rodriguez applied his rear brake, lost control of the motorcycle, and collided with the rear portion of Williams’ vehicle, causing the motorcycle and Rodriguez to collide with the asphalt.

The Rialto Police Department requests that anyone who may have information about this incident contact Traffic Sergeant Dan Smith at (909) 644-6025.  Witnesses can also anonymously report information through WeTip at (800) 782-7463, reference case #932211759.
