Fatal Hit and Run Traffic Collision

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, at approximately 7:05 p.m. officers responded to the area of 2400 South Riverside Avenue, for an unknown injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. Officers arrived on scene at approximately 7:08 p.m. and discovered the involved vehicle had fled. Rialto Fire Department personnel arrived minutes later and administered life-saving measures to the bicyclist, who was pronounced deceased at 7:17 p.m.

The Rialto Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded and conducted a preliminary investigation. Initial information indicated the suspect was driving southbound in the #2 lane of Riverside Avenue approaching Santa Ana Avenue. The bicyclist was southbound in the middle of the #2 lane approaching Santa Ana Avenue. The suspect vehicle collided into the rear of the bicyclist and then fled.

Following the traffic collision the Rialto Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team conducted extensive follow up, leading to the recovery of the suspect vehicle, a white 2008 Hyundai Elantra, in the city of Bloomington. The suspect vehicle contained evidence that corroborated its involvement in the fatal hit and run collision. The driver of the vehicle was identified as 46-yearold Santos Lopez-Rosales of San Bernardino. Lopez-Rosales has not been located and a felony warrant has been issued for his arrest.
