SERGEANT DARRELL LEE
END OF WATCH – 7/24/1970
Sergeant Darrell Lee was assisting in the arrest of a violent arson suspect at a warehouse along the railroad tracks between Palm Avenue and 2nd Street when he was punched in the chest. The metal pin on his badge punctured his chest and injured his heart, causing him to suffer a major heart attack. While on medical leave, he suffered a second heart attack and passed away on July 24, 1970.
The suspect that assaulted him was charged with battery with injuries to a peace officer.
Sergeant Lee had served with the Rialto Police Department for 12 years. He was survived by his wife, three children, mother, and two siblings.
SERGEANT GARY WOLFLEY
END OF WATCH – 3/3/1986
On March 3, 1986, Sergeant Wolfley responded to a robbery in progress at a local gas station. Sergeant Wolfley was checking the rear of the business when he was ambushed by a suspect and knocked unconscious.
The suspect was able to remove Sergeant Wolfley’s service revolver and fatally shoot him. Sergeant Wolfley’s wife was on a ride-along with him and witnessed the incident.
Sergeant Wolfley was 30 years old at the time of his death. He honorably served our community as a Police Cadet, Dispatcher, and Police Officer.
OFFICER SERGIO CARRERA
END OF WATCH – 10/18/2007
Officer Sergio Carrera was shot while serving a warrant at an apartment building during a narcotics raid.
He was part of a six-man SWAT team serving a narcotics search warrant on a duplex on Cascade Street, just off of Riverside Avenue, at approximately 7:00 a.m. He was shot in the upper body during a struggle between a man and a fellow officer inside the apartment. He was rushed to a hospital but died from his wounds during surgery.
The suspect, wanted in Mississippi for distribution of cocaine, was charged with first-degree murder. On January 26, 2011, he was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.
Officer Carrera had served with the Rialto Police Department for four years. He is survived by his wife and two children.
