On Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 03:42 a.m. a Rialto Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on a 2020 Chevrolet Camaro in the area of Foothill Blvd and Meridian Ave for vehicle code violations. The driver fled north on Meridian Ave at a high rate of speed for approximately one mile and approached Baseline Rd. The driver attempted a westbound turn onto Baseline and collided with a concrete wall. Rialto Police officers requested Rialto Fire Department and began life saving measures. The driver was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and succumbed to his injuries at 5:29 a.m. The investigation is ongoing, but there is evidence speed contributed to the collision. It is unknown if the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs when the collision occurred.
The San Bernardino Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation.
