Rialto, Calif. – Rialto Police Department will hold a DUI Driver’s License Checkpoint in the south portion of the city of Rialto on May 30th, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI collisions and arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.
During the checkpoint, officers will check for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment to help ensure the safety of everyone traveling through the community. The Rialto Police Department remains committed to proactive enforcement efforts aimed at reducing impaired driving and preventing avoidable tragedies on our roadways. “One impaired driver has the potential to leave a lifetime of devastation in their wake,” said Chief Mark P. Kling. “Our mission is not simply enforcement, but prevention. Every life we protect and every tragedy we prevent reinforces our commitment to keeping our community and those who travel through it safe.”
Rialto Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.
If you plan on drinking or taking medications that may impact your ability to drive safely, stay home. Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended driver’s license.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program. The Cannabis Tax Fund Grant Program marks an important step toward reducing impaired driving crashes, increasing public awareness surrounding the dangers of impaired driving, and making California’s roadways a safer place to travel.
